How to Wear the New Colorful Makeup

Now more than ever, makeup is exciting again, with so many new products, formulations and colors hitting the market just in time for spring.  In years past there were dominant looks that everyone copied….and copied, whether it suited them or not.  There has been a marked lack of originality as people cloned themselves with contour, heavy liner and lashes, and over-done eyebrows and lips, and finally the trend is swinging back into a fresh new take on beauty that is taking Instagram by storm.

The best new beauty bloggers and Instagrammers are creating amazingly colorful and bold makeup looks, and the result is so refreshing and fun.  It’s a case now of who can come up with the most original makeup without cloning, or overdoing it.  Many of these looks are infinitely wearable depending on the occasion, and by toning down certain elements, or focusing on one standout feature with color.

Here are three looks that are forward and fresh, and that can be toned down for a softer variation.  Nothing cartoony or fake about these looks, so don’t be afraid of a little color!

Model Crush Monday – Grace Hartzel

Once in a very blue moon a model comes along that sparks the imagination of designers, editors and photographers, with her ability to transform herself and to become different characters to suit each project.  American beauty Grace Hartzel is one of the break out models of the last year with her large, wide-set eyes and willowy body, going from covers to campaigns without batting an eyelash.

At merely twenty years old, Indiana native Grace began modeling when she was scouted in 2011, quickly making the leap from a new face to a standout runway star in short order, quickly racking up runway shows, covers, and campaigns, around the world.

Grace has loved transforming herself with style and makeup since she was a child, initially planning on an acting career before modeling became an option, so the transition to modeling was an easy one for her, going from goth, to ultra-feminine, to sixties mod, to 90's grunge, all while looking like the coolest girl that everyone wants to hang with.

Her chameleon-like ability and her willingness to hide her own identity in becoming a character make her a dream model for photographers and editors.  Having a great awareness of movement and instinctually knowing what the camera is seeing gives her an edge over other models who are bound by their look and brand.

Acting is definitely in the cards, as still photography is proving to be a training ground for Grace who recently shot the new commercial video for Salvatore Ferragamo’s fragrance Signorina Misteriosa and loved every second of it.  Such an animated, imaginative model should surely make the jump from printed pages to the big screen.  No doubt Grace will make it look easy.

Models' Off-Duty Beauty - The Face This Guide

Yes, they are genetically gifted and look gorgeous with or without makeup and hair, but they do have personal beauty rules they stick to on their days off and on travel days, to maintain their skin and hair so it can stand up to the rigors of back to back shows and photo shoots.  With all the makeup switch-ups during show seasons, usually multiple times per day, quick and often extreme hair manipulation, little sleep, irregular eating habits, airplane air, and general stress or the hectic pace of it all, models have to take care of their skin and hair if they want to keep working.

Giving their skin and hair a rest on down days is first and foremost to models.  Letting their skin breathe and not be coated with different products is essential, as is letting their hair be clean and in its natural state as much as possible. Proper sleep, drinking water, wearing sunscreen, never going to bed without removing makeup, and using a super-hydrating moisturizer twice a day, are standard model beauty rules that go a long way in maintaining a healthy complexion.

We did an informal survey amongst some of the top models in Miami this season and asked them for their favorite products and beauty tips:

Cleanser:  Bioderma

Sunscreen:  Neogen SPF 50

Moisturizer: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel with Hyaluronic Acid

Lips:  Homeoplasmine

Mascara:  Maybelline Great Lash

Tinted Moisturizer:  Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30

Vitamin E oil and coconut oil for treating hair, skin, dry patches, body, cuticles, etc.

Take it from these models that what you don’t put on your face is just as important as what you do.  Giving your skin  time to recover and rejuvenate is crucial.  A fresh, glowing, hydrated complexion is beauty at its best.
