#nomakeupmovement - Dare to Bare! Stars Go Makeup-free in THE New Beauty Trend
Maybe it is a
backlash against all the extreme makeup selfies on Instagram, or the obviously
retouched faces on magazine covers and in editorials, or maybe it is just that
the trend pendulum is swinging in the opposite direction, but whatever the
reason, makeup-free faces are having a moment – a BIG moment. And it is about time. Celebrities
who are comfortable in their own skin are posting gorgeous and realistic
selfies sans makeup and the look is nothing short of revolutionary and
refreshing on the eye. This could end up
to be just another trend, but it is a good one to embrace, and so much less
expensive and time-consuming than trying to imitate extreme contouring,
dramatically drawn eyebrows, heavy eyeliner, and cadaver-colored lips. What a relief!
The
controversy around the no-makeup trend is echoing all over twitter with one
side saying that it is authentic and freeing for women, and the other side
saying that whether you want to wear a lot of makeup or go bare faced should be
a choice and not a trend. Both arguments
are valid and it should not be a divisive issue – aren’t there enough issues to
divide people than whether someone chooses to wear makeup or not??
Showing skin,
wrinkles, freckles, discolorations and all does not take anything away from the
beauty of these celebrities and models.
In fact, it shows how remarkably beautiful they really are, without
clown-like embellishment and alteration of their features. It’s time our eye became attuned once again
to what women really look like and to celebrate the unique beauty of each one
of us. Copying extreme makeup looks
makes women look like clones and there is nothing beautiful about these false
appearances. Who wants to look like a
clone? Celebrities did not become famous for being
like anyone else – they are unique, and they stand out from the pack for those
very qualities.
This new
beauty trend is gaining momentum and is not going to go away any time soon, so
get on board and enjoy the freedom of being yourself, time to time. Take care of your skin and groom your brows,
and start taking selfies to see what is your own best lighting condition, and
then post the best shot. I dare you! Let everyone know how GORGEOUS you really
are, no filters needed!
XOXO Shelley

Winter Skin Beauty Hacks: Keep Glowing While It’s Snowing
Looking a
little too red and rosy? Is your skin
feeling like it might crack if you smile?
Lips looking a little like a dried up desert? If you are still using your same beauty
products in the winter that you use the rest of the year, you might be causing
a lot of these issues yourself. Our skin
has vastly different needs in the winter in reaction to the environment: drying
indoor heating, going from very cold air to very warm air, biting winds, and
lots of layers piled up around our faces makes our skin vulnerable and in need
of a little extra TLC. Switching to
products that help your skin retain moisture and don’t strip the skin is
critical and will help you keep glowing all winter long.
Like every
beauty routine you have to start with the basics. Wash your face with a creamy product that
moisturizes as is removes makeup and impurities, and is less harsh than regular
cleansers on the skin. Twice a week
exfoliate your skin with a gentle scrub to remove dry skin.
Apply
moisturizer while your face is still damp as it will lock in moisture and plump
up the skin. Look for moisturizers that
contain ceramides, peptides, and hyaluronic acid all of which help retain skins
moisture levels and help create a strong barrier against the elements.
A little skin
treat that goes a long way is a face mask and this is the perfect time to
indulge. Apply a face mask while you
soak in the bath so that your pores open up making the mask much more
effective. For a list of masks and the
skin issues they treat see my post The Face This Ultimate Guide to Face Masques. You can also raid your pantry for natural
alternative masks. Masks are a great way
to combat redness, to give your skin an extra boost of hydration, to exfoliate
away dry skin and to get glowing.
Just because
the days are shorter and we are much more covered up does not mean you can skip
a high SPF. Protect your skin from
UVA/UVB rays that still make it through winter skies, and light that reflects
off of snow. And don’t forget your lips
– the skin on lips is often the first part of the face to show signs of winter
stress, as we constantly lick our lips because of drying wind or indoor
heating, so be sure to use a basic scent-free lip butter at night (lip products
with a flavor or fragrance can be more drying), and use a creamy lip product or
tinted lip balm with SPF during the day.
Simply
switching up the products you use can make a huge difference to your winter
skin and banish a lot of skin troubles away. Being consistent is important to keep you
glowing like it is spring, and less like a certain red-nosed reindeer. And don’t forget to hydrate from the inside
by drinking lots of H20 to replenish the moisture in your skin, keeping it
plump. Just because it is winter does not mean you have to forgo the glow.
XOXO Shelley

Model Crush Monday: Victoria’s Secret Angel Elsa Hosk
Swedish
beauty Elsa Hosk is about the walk the runway for the Victoria’s Secret Fashion
Show, 2016, for the sixth time, her second show as an Angel, making her one of
a select few under contract to Victoria’s Secret. Known for her enviable curves and icy beauty,
she is quickly becoming one of the iconic faces of the brand.
She began
modeling at age 13 when her dad submitted photos of her to a local agency. Her career took an upward turn when she was photographed
by Ellen Von Unwerth for Guess!, a brand whose epic campaigns have made
household names out of their previous models.
An athlete at
heart, Elsa played professional basketball in Sweden for two years before her
career took her to NYC. To keep in peak
physical condition is a year-round commitment for her, training regularly at
boxing, basketball, and her favorite body-transforming workout, barre. Clearly it’s working!
Loves: being naked.
Hates: traveling alone on planes.
Wide-set blue
eyes and a smattering of freckles, Elsa is a quintessential Scandinavian
beauty, with a face that harkens back to movie stars of another era and a body
that reminds us the amazon models of the eighties. Her classic beauty has made her a natural for
brands from Dior to Dolce et Gabana, Ungaro to Lilly Pulizter.

Instagram for all the behind the scenes moments of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion
2016 from Pairs: @hoskelsa
